Who supports us
This page carries no names, and it says so. What it carries instead is what the association accepts and what it turns down.
What this page will say, and what it says today
No funder, no foundation and no public body supports this publishing house to date. Nobody is named on this page because nobody has yet earned a place on it, and a support page filled with logos with no agreement behind them is exactly the kind of thing this association refuses to do.
When support arrives, it will be named here: who, for what, over which period, and what it made it possible to publish. A thank-you with no object tells nobody anything; a thank-you that names a book tells the next funder something.
What the work of this house costs is writing time, checking time and layout time. A complete, checked textbook takes weeks for a single title, and that is what support funds: not a server, not a software licence, not a campaign.
What support changes, concretely
- One more title opened within the year, with its crossed checking and its seven languages.
- A check by someone who knows the subject, rather than by whoever is available.
- Openly licensed illustrations prepared properly, cropped and credited one by one.
- A translation written natively rather than postponed, which keeps one language from falling six months behind the others.
- And nothing else: no promotion, and no overheads beyond what the budget of the association declares.
What the association accepts, what it turns down
Accepted
- A public grant, a bursary, a prize, funding from a foundation.
- Philanthropy in money, in skills or in kind, with a written agreement.
- A partnership in which ODERSA is a minor partner, provided it commits neither funds nor staff it does not have.
- Recognition of the funder: its name, its logo, its mention in the colophons of the books it made possible.
- An evaluation report with figures, handed to the funder, showing the before and the after.
Turned down, without exception
- Anything commercial in return, any subscription, any sale: the association is non-profit and sells nothing in exchange.
- Any say over the content of a book, or over what the house refuses to publish.
- Exclusivity on a text, or a licence less open than CC BY 4.0 in order to satisfy a funder.
- A gift conditioned on a service, training in exchange for a donation, a disguised contract.
- Funding that would require collecting data about readers or pupils.
A funder in doubt can verify everything this page asserts: the accounts of the association, its statutes and its registration number are public, and the content of this site can be reused without permission. Funding under an open licence is funding whose result outlives the association.
